In the early 1970s David Porter was a contributing photographer for some of the most influential Australian Rock music and underground publications (Go-Set, Daily/Planet, Rolling Stone (Australian Edition), The Digger. Porter was based in Melbourne, his subject the zeitgeist of its Rock/Pop music, underground theatre, and Counterculture scenes, sometimes working as ‘David Porter’, sometimes ‘Jacques L’Affrique’, sometimes ‘Jack Africa’. In 1973 he left Melbourne, stopped working in commercial photography, and pursued a teaching career.GERRY HUMPHRYS (b. 1943. d.2005) Rock vocalist. Charismatic performer. Work with The Loved Ones considered a cornerstone of Australian rock music. Legend of Australian rock. Resettled in the UK (1977). Died in London (2005). The Loved Ones (1965-67). Humphrys (vocals, harmonica), Gavin Anderson (drums), Ian Clyde (organ, piano), Rob Lovett (guitar), Kim Lynch (bass). The 1966 single ‘The Loved One’ reached number 2 on the charts. The band split in 1967. Inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame (2010). Gerry & The Joy Band (1971-72). Humphrys (vocals), Billy Green (guitar), Ross Wilson (guitar, vocals), Ross Hannaford (guitar), Brian Peacock (bass), Warren Morgan (piano/vocals), Gary Young (drums). Released two singles, ‘Rave On’ (1971), ‘Ongo Bongo’ (1972).
