Arthur Garfield Dove was an American pioneer of abstract art, known for his evocative landscapes and early explorations of non-representational forms, shaping modernism in the US.

This painting demonstrates Dove"s facility for creating highly abstracted images based on forms and rhythms he saw in nature. Among the painters and photographers of the Stieglitz circle Dove was perhaps the earliest and most persistent devotee of abstraction.
