Out of all the manufacturers in France, Emile-Louis Jumeau became the most famous. His dolls have porcelain paste heads and articulated papier-mâché bodies with a fitted-in ball. They have silk dresses and leather shoes, and matching hats, which show the social class at which they are aimed: the emerging bourgeoisie.
