The work of the Dutch photographer Iwan Baan overlaps an interest in photography with another for architecture. This latter, developed through Baan’s collaboration with the world’s most important architects, is characterised by an attention toward people, context, society and the environment. In the images realised for the Cantiere d’autore project dedicated to the construction of the MAXXI, Iwan Baan chose to reveal the context that hosts this work by Zaha Hadid and the way it interacts with its urban surroundings: the structure reflects the curve of the Tiber River, connecting to the axis of the Vatican to dialogue through contrast with the urban setting of the Flaminio neighbourhood. The diverse “traces of history” captured by Hadid’s design are visible only when seen from the air.
