St Sebastian Nursed by Irene and her Helpers, Jacques Blanchard, 1630 - 1638
1638
153.0 x 202.0 cm
Saint Sebastian cared for by Irene and her helpers. In a room with a blue and cream tiled floor the arrow wounded Sebastian sits on a mattress, supported in his back by an old woman with white headscarf. He's completely naked except for a loincloth. On the left, Irene kneeled down with him and supported his head with her left hand while holding one of his wrists with the other hand. A helper pulls an arrow out of Sebastiaan's neck on the right. In the foreground a red bowl with sponge, cloth, arrows and an ointment jar with bottle. In the background right a fireplace, on the left a look through to another room.
