Le Déjeuner
1911
142.0 x 175.0 cm
Museo Nacional Machado de Castro
The painting presents an ambience of intimacy, slightly bleak, that hide the relations between characters, revealing the enigma as long as they are being modeled towards the vibrant light in the foreground. The elegance of Renée is presented, as she poses restrained near a table, covered by a white towel, above which objects and fruits are displayed, resembling a Still Life. The young model and intimate friend of the artist, although wearing a pink dress that stands out, adopts a reserved attitude. In the shady background remains the maid, discrete, only stands out due to the apron and the metallic reflexes from the tea pot that carries on the tray. On the opposite side of the table, the presence of a man is distinguished, wearing a black hat and suit, while he smokes in between the moment of encounter and dialogue, representing another circunspect self- portrait of the artist.
