Jan Hackaert (1628-1685) was a Dutch Golden Age landscape painter renowned for Italianate landscapes & scenes of Germany/Switzerland. He often collaborated with Berchem & van de Velde, capturing atmospheric light and detailed natural settings.

The birch lane. A hunting party with riders and dogs gathers outside the gate of an estate, on a avenue along a row of high birches at a canal. The painting was traditionally known as "De essenlaan."
