Group Pilgrimage at the Entrance of Mt. Mitsumine

In the Chichibu, Saitama district of the Edo era, the people worshiped the Japanese wolf as an errand of God , who protected farm products from a harmful animal in those days. The errand of God came to be gradually believed in as God of the averting misfortune and came to gather people of much prayer. In the Kanto Koshin district and the Tohoku district, the people organized associations to visit Mitsumine Shrine and visited it systematically. This ukiyoe print comprised of three pieces is pictured the figure of people visiting Mitsumine Shrine. A product of Toyokuni Utagawa the third.
