In the middle and taking up almost the entire composition, the full-rigged ship Remedios Pascual is shown in full sail, seen from the starboard side. There is a pennant on the mizzen mast bearing the ship’s name, while on the foresail there is a flag with the letters M.J., and on the mainmast there is the flag denoting the vessel’s registration in Barcelona, and the Spanish flag hoisted from the poop deck. The full-rigged ship Remedios Pascual was built in 1885 at the J. Birgay shipyard in Barton (Nova Scotia). English by nationality, it was owned by Guillermo Lowe, and was registered in Yarmouth in 1890-91. On 3rd April 1900 it was purchased by Marcelino Jané in London for £4.300; and on 2nd November 1900 the vessel was provisionally registered at Barcelona, and permanently on 16th March 1901. P. Morató was made ship’s captain in 1902. The vessel was given different names, first “Stalwart”, then “J.Bingay” and finally, “Remedios Pascual”. Technical details: length 66.10 m., beam 12.20, depth 7.00, total tonnage 1,436.86 t. and nett weight 1,305.68 t. The hull was wooden and in 1889 it was lined with copper. In 27th January 1906 the ship was put out of service, after being wrecked on Ship John beach, 90 miles south of New York, on 3rd January 1903.
