Princess of Eboli
Her larger-than-life character attracts visitors from all over the world. She was one of the most talented women of her time. Her image is iconic because of the eye-patch she wore. Among the different hypotheses for the loss of her right eye, experts tend to endorse that a page hurt her eye with a foil when she was young, but this is not definitive. She might squint instead of being blind in one eye but there are few sources that suggest a physical defect. On Sunday February 2nd 1592, Ana de Mendoza y de la Cerda, I duchess of Pastrana and princess of Eboli, died in her palace in Pastrana. For longer than thirteen years, Philip II had imprisoned her and deprived her of both the custody of her children and the administration of her property.
