The monumental painting displays an enormous vitality generated by the spreading of colours with quick brushstrokes that run side by side and thin filaments. It was unveiled at the Venice Biennale in 1907. Vincenzo Florio purchased it and later donated it to the newly founded Gallery in 1908. Shaded in the foreground, it features a thick vegetation dense with blossoming almond trees, cypress and holm oak trees that become the setting for the higher level of the painting. Here, the outline of Taormina stands out, glowing in the sunlight, located on a terrace overlooking the sea enclosed by a bay. In the background rises the imposing snow-clad Mount Etna, unveiling a blue sky where pink clouds chase each other.
