Advertising Fan for Cognac Richpailloud
Fan with stained wooden sticks and no guards. The double paper leaf is printed on the recto with a chromolithographic adaptation of a poster design of a large figure adorned in a red costume and matching wide-brimmed feather hat, clasping the company coat of arms of Richard & Paillard at chest height. The artist uses negative space to great effect here – rhythmic brushwork swirls around the figure creating a perfectly apt mood of inebriation! The verso bears the company name on an otherwise plain ground.
