Ranuzio is Bianca Stampa di Soncino’s husband, and presents here his son as heir to his name and lineage. The clothes and the chair are more elegant and important here than in the previous painting. Ranuzio had important assignments with Napoleon’s arrival in the dukedoms, becoming first senator of the Empire and then advisor for Mary Louise of Austria. He was a patron, particularly for paintings – he ordered Landi The meeting between Hector and Andromache and Hetor reproaches Paris (now kept at the Gazzola Art Istitute of Piacenza) – and also for music, giving his help to the local composer Niccolini.
