Georges Jules Victor Clairin (1843 – 1919)
Georges Jules Victor Clairin (1843-1919) was a French Orientalist painter renowned for his evocative depictions of North Africa & intimate portraits of Sarah Bernhardt. Explore his Moorish-inspired scenes, theatrical works & Salon successes.
The lassitude and otherworldliness that permeate this picture were not limited to Clairin’s Middle Eastern subjects. The artist also specialized in scenes of figures luxuriating in well-appointed European interiors, including his friend, the actress Sarah Bernhardt (1844–1923).
