      This painting by the American artist John Pike (1911–1979) shows Raymond and Mildred Pitcairn looking toward their beloved summer vacation property—Glen Tonche—located on Tonche Mountain (today referred to as Tonshi) in the Catskill Mountains of New York. The painting has a permanent place above the fireplace in the Upper Hall of Glencairn (now Glencairn Museum), the family’s castle-like home in Bryn Athyn, Pennsylvania. John Pike lived and worked in Woodstock, New York. He owned the John Pike Watercolor School in Woodstock near Glen Tonche. Mildred Pitcairn must have been fond of the painting, as indicated by the fact that she used it for her annual Christmas card in 1968, two years after Raymond had passed away.
