He frequently collaborated with the architectural painters Pieter Neeffs the Elder and the Younger. Small nocturnal views, with their jewel-like effects of artificial illumination, were popularized in the genre by Hendrick van Steenwyck the Younger (Flemish, born about 1580, died 1649).
