Presented in Boetti’s debut exhibition in the Christian Stein gallery in Turin in 1967, the work was categorised as completely autonomous, together with other equally independent and self-referential works. Boetti combines the choice of an elementary material with an equally simple form, capable of visualising the thrust applied to the inside the roll through the winding of the cardboard around on itself. The lack of internal relations and metaphorical references allows this and other works by Boetti from 1966-1967, purely intended to manifest their own existence, to be counted among the first examples of Arte Povera.
