After his studies in Cremona, Il Malosso was active in Piacenza from 1585 to 1615. His works, inspired by the principles of the Counter-Reformation, recall Correggio’s lesson for the sense of calm devotion and the tenderness that bonds the characters. In this canvas a majestic architectural background is used as a stage for the “Holy Conversation” between the Virgin Mary with the Child, St. John the Evangelist and St. Anthony the Abbot.
