A small watercolour painting, titled Namibian Landscape I (1964) by the Namibian artist, Adolph Stephan Friederich Jentsch (1888-1977) painted in the Namib-Naukluft National Park in Namibia. In the far background is the silhouette of one of the peaks of the Naukluft Mountains. The Namib-Naukluft National Park is situated in the Namib Desert in western Namibia. Jentsch was born in 1888 in Deuben, Dresden in Germany. He relocated in 1938, to the then South West Africa, known today as Namibia. During his lifetime, Jentsch was probably one of the most recognized Namibian artists. He held over 30 exhibitions and won three major medals for art, including the South African Academy for Science and Art Medal in 1962, a medal only awarded once a year to a single artist. Jentsch worked in the medium of oils and watercolours, but his fame would be attached to his water colours as he perfected simple lines in a near pointillistic style to recreate the beautiful and breathtaking Namibian landscapes.
