Employing simple Chinese ink-painting techniques, the painter capture the quiet and relaxed atmosphere Tamsui in a bygone era. The lightly inked mountain in the distance, the tangle of trees in the foreground, and the nearby tile-roofed houses indicate the spatial relationship between the two banks of the river. On the water, there are two sailboats, one nearer, the other farther away, one bigger, the other smaller; the viewer senses a space so vast as to defy description. Overall, the work is imbued with elegance and ease, reminiscent of Japanese painting
