The Winton Residence Guest House

The Winton guesthouse was designed by Gehry in 1983 for a residence in Wayzata, Minnesota, which has an entirely different type of design by Philip Johnson. The guesthouse is a grouping of one-room buildings that are differentiated by cracks. Flanking a tall central living-dining space are two bedrooms, one curved and the other with a shed roof, as well as a long rectangular section intended for service and kitchen functions. The sketch in the lower right is a view of the building from the outside. Known for his use of sculptural form as in the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao in Spain, unveiled in 1997, Gehry captured in these sketches the dynamic relationships of his sculptural grouping.
