Larche’s design for this decorative table lamp was inspired by the graceful movements of Loïe Fuller (1862–1928), one of the most celebrated dancers in Paris during the late 1890s and after. An American, Fuller had developed a style of dance based on the swirling and billowing movements of her diaphanous veiled costumes.Text © National Gallery of Australia, Canberra 2010
