Paolo Cotani (1940-2011) attended the Academy of Decorative Arts in Paris and moved to London in 1964, returning to Rome in 1970. His painting is anti-iconic, made of layers of color, and embraces an abstract style that focuses on the analysis of the syntactic tools of painting. Surface, color, light, and support are part of a process of zeroing and reduction, where the work ends up coinciding with the procedure, or the praxis that generated it.
