Unkoku Tōgan (1547-1618) was a Japanese painter born into a privileged family in Nagasaki. He initially studied under a Kanō artist, but later became inspired by the style of Sesshu. Tōgan is best remembered as a suiboku-ga (“water-ink painting”) artist and is considered one of the most important ink painters of the Momoyama period.
