The Flyer Railroad Train
1905
20.0 x 45.0 cm
In addition to puzzles and board games, Massachusetts-based Milton Bradley produced a small line of lithographed wooden toys. American toy makers embraced the process as a cost saving measure for suggesting detail on inexpensive plain materials like wood and cardboard. The lithographic decals here suggest bars and rivets on the cow catcher and bring life to the cab through the illustration of an engineer confidently manning the throttle. When new in 1884, this toy was priced at $1.50 and came boxed with a tender and one passenger car.
