Лиссабонские плитки и искусство азулежу: история португальской керамики в Музее национальных азулежу.
The renewal of arquitecture in the 1950s brought the renewal of azulejos, with particular emphasis on the work of painters. A modern spirit advocating a total break with artistic tradition appeared in that decade. Young architects who had been trained in the principles of international functionalism and who were prepared to incorporate works of art into their projects were creating new buildings and urban structures. During the 1960s and 70s, azulejos clearly revealed the transposition of languages that came from painting. In this context João Abel Manta (b. 1928) reveals a deconstructive logic. His openly unsynchronized work invites the observer to engage in an endless search for relationships between the various sections and fragments of images.
