Thamsanqa Mnyele was born into the turbulent heart of South Africa, in the Alexandra Township of Johannesburg. By 1979, Mnyele had become a central figure in the Medu Art Ensemble, working alongside luminaries like the poet Wally Serote. In June 1985, the artist's life was tragically cut short during a siege by South African forces, an event that silenced his hand but amplified his message.
