Mit der Entdeckung dieser außergewöhnlichen Büste des Pharao am 6. Dezember 1912 beginnt die spektakuläre Fundserie in den beiden Kammern des Wohnhauses P 47.2. Borchardt notiert hierzu in seinem Grabungstagebuch: „In dem Eckraum des Hauses, an der NO-Ecke, wohl dem Zimmer neben der breiten Halle, vorläufig noch ohne Nummer, liegt eine in 5 Stücke zerschlagene lebensgroße farbige Königsbüste nicht ganz vollständig. Gesicht leider recht ramponiert. Erhalten sind Brust, Stück des Armes, Hals, Gesicht u. Perücke.“ Erst nach der Bergung dieser Stücke sowie den Fragmenten der kleinen Königinnenstatue (ÄM 21263) und dem Fund des ersten Gipsmodellkopfes eines Mannes (ÄM 21280) arbeitete man sich weiter in die Nordostecke der Kammer vor, in welcher am Nachmittag die bemalte Büste der Königin gefunden wurde. Die Büste des Königs war – neben dem Fund des Pendants in Gestalt der Königin – das einzig farbig bemalte, sogar vergoldete und vollendete Stück unter den Skulpturen in der besagten Doppelkammer. Die antiken Zerstörungsspuren am Kronenband und den Mandragorafrüchten dürften lediglich der Entfernung des kostbaren Blattgolds gedient haben, während die brutale Zerschlagung des Gesichts auf die Damnatio des Königs – eventuell zu einem späteren Zeitpunkt – zurückzuführen sein wird.Aus: Seyfried, F., in: F.
