early life and career
charles edward dixon, a british maritime painter, was born on december 8, 1872, in goring-on-thames. as the son of alfred dixon, a successful genre painter, charles was educated in the trade from an early age. he soon developed a successful practice, producing nautical scenes, both watercolors of coastal life and large oil paintings of historical or contemporary naval subjects.artistic achievements
charles edward dixon's work was highly successful and regularly exhibited at the royal academy. several of his paintings are now held by the national maritime museum in london. he was also a regular contributing artist to magazines and periodicals, including the graphic. in 1900, he was made a member of the royal institute of painters in water colours.notable works and collections
