To the artist, the tragedy of division in contemporary Korean history has always been an important topic, a persistent subject matter and eternal theme of his works. Farming Season of The Civilian Control Line (1986) is a landscape painting that shows civilian residents who live in the civilian control line area, a wartime operational territory, and soldiers who live there for a different purpose. The artist casts a message of awakening for the situation of the divided North and the South, which now feels almost ordinary. It is the artist’s warning against Korea’s remaining a divided nation.
