Allegory of science. A group of female characters. In the middle a standing woman with a helmet, on the right a sitting woman. On the bottom left, a snake twists around a shield. From a series of five allegories (SK-A-4174/4178), painted in grisaille between 1675 and 1683 for the house "Messina" of Philips de Flines on the Herengracht.
