Huang Ran, Maybe We Just Care About the Feeling of Caring

huang ran (1982 –)

Huang Ran (黃然), Taiwanese artist born 1982, creates thought-provoking steel sculptures & multidisciplinary works exploring themes of perception, history, and the human experience. Known for 'Maybe We Just Care About the Feeling of Caring'.

UCCA Center for Contemporary Art (Beijing, People's Republic of China)

Located in Beijing's 798 Art District, UCCA Center for Contemporary Art offers a rotating kaleidoscope of provocative exhibitions and immersive installations that invite you to explore the pulse of China's modern creativity.

Stainless steel, bubble machine, bubble soap, high-voltage generator, dimensions variable. Huang Ran’s installations and films attempt to describe an ineffable predicament. The contradictory relationships among materials mimic, beneath a romantic outer skin, the paradoxical relationship between the individual and the apparatus that inspires desire. In Maybe We Just Care About the Feeling of Caring, bubbles collide with a high-voltage screen and sublimate into blue sparks, thus giving aesthetic meaning to the damaging power of the current. This artwork was featured in the UCCA exhibition
