Jan Willem Pieneman (1779 – 1853)

Jan Willem Pieneman (1779-1853) was a Dutch painter renowned for historical scenes of the United Kingdom of the Netherlands, portraits & allegorical works. Director of the Royal Academy & Rijksmuseum. Influenced by events like the Battle of Waterloo.

Portraits of Louis Royer (1787-1868), sculptor and Albertus Bernardus Roothaan (1793-1847), broker in securities, art friend and promoter of science. The two men shake hands, on the right side of a table is Royer's image of a Greek shepherd beating a snake.
