Johannes Lingelbach (1622 – 1674)

Johannes Lingelbach (1622-1674) was a Dutch Golden Age painter of lively Roman street scenes & landscapes, associated with the Bamboccianti style. Influenced by Caravaggio & Wouwermans, his genre paintings are highly sought after.

The entrance to the Kapitol with the white horse of the newly elected Pope, accompanied by a priest with a cross. In the foreground the flooded crowd, left sheep at the quay of the river. On the right the steps of the Kapitol with the large statues on footage of horses. In the distance other buildings of Rome: the Angel castle and the dome of Saint Peter.
