Señor Comisionado del Pueblo Report to me everything you know regarding the manner in which the wife of Alférez Graduado Pedro Amador treats her stepson and the son of this José María, and even what she told the priest himself. In order to take appropriate measures it is necessary to hear all sides of the story. Therefore, I have asked the Padres from San José for a report on the case being made by the townspeople. Until I hear from them neither I nor anyone else can resolve the problem. None of this would have happened if the inhabitants of the town had made their case when the Padres had the sheep at the place which is now at the center of the controversy. God keep you many years.Monterey, October 3, 1809José María Estudillo
