The performance is based on the Bible text from Acts 14:8-11. The apostle Paul and Barnabas arrive in Lystra, a place in current Turkey, to preach Christian faith. Here Paul is surrounded by some people. Some are sick, others have a disability. In the Roman Catholic Bible translation and the American translation there is talk about the man in the front left as "being crippled." This was the 17th century generic indication for having a limitation on feet or legs. Because the man would have faith, Paul could heal the man's feet in the name of God, so that he could walk. In the background is a pillar of the temple of Jupiter or Mercury, the gods for which Apostle and Barnabas are seen after this wondrous event.
