Lintels Central Arch of The Portico of Glory
In the lintels where the Portico of Glory settles can be found Master Mateo’s commemorative inscription of its placement the 1st of April of 1188. This epigraph, one of the two existing references contemporary to Maestro Mateo’s work in the cathedral, has great importance to chronologically locate the evolution of the twenty years lapsed work since its beginning in 1168, as well as to value the labor of Mateo that, as the inscription says, directed from its foundations.
