Apotheosis of the Dutch East India Company (Allegory of the Amsterdam Chamber of Commerce of the VOC), Nicolaas Verkolje, 1702 - 1746

Allegorical performance with the female personification of the Amsterdam Chamber of the United East India Company sat on a throne. On the head she carries a crown of ships, in the right hand a sword with laurel wreath, in the left hand books and documents. Behind the throne Mercury, on the left a sitting woman with a dog and a key, on the right a female personification with a helm in his hands. Two putti on the right, Neptune and a galley by two pillars. Manufactured for a token from 1702 minted in honor of the centenary of the VOC.
