In her artistic sceneries, Nilbar Güreş captures sociopolitical paradoxes. The artist unveils immanent identity constructions and culturally shaped role models as image-creating structures, which she plays with in a subversive and at the same time humorous way. In doing so, she stages a dance around visibility and disguise. Disguise as a building block of collective historiography is also important in the work Red, Old Woman, Yellow, Black Eyes, Brown, Pride Belt, Blue, Drilled Ears, Silver, Carpet Seeds, Blue, Teenage Acne. Here, Güreş uses skirts and accessories of indigenous people of Brazil as individual movable pieces of scenery upon which the sculptural construction is built.
