Willem van de Velde the Younger (1633–1707) was a Dutch marine painter, son of Willem van de Velde the Elder. Trained by his father and Simon de Vlieger, he mastered Van de Velde’s distinctive technique – careful observation and skillful depiction of ships' rigging and human figures to tell stories.
