Alfred Percival Maudslay was born in London and pursued natural sciences at Trinity Hall, Cambridge. He embarked on expeditions to Central America, Mexico, and the United States, fostering a passion for archaeology after witnessing the Quiriguá monument. His travels included Iceland and positions in Jamaica and Trinidad before dedicating himself to collecting ethnographic materials.
