Filarete is first recorded in 1433 in Rome, where he attended the coronation of the Emperor Sigismund. Presumably the same year he was commissioned by Pope Eugenius IV to design and execute the bronze doors of St. Peter's Basilica.
Discover Filarete's 'Trattato d'architettura' – a stunning 1465 architectural drawing of a fantastical utopian city. Explore its intricate details, Renaissance style, and symbolic representation of ambition & humanism.
