Fra Angelico (c. 1395 – 1455) was an Italian Renaissance painter and draughtsman, known for his frescoes in the Convent of San Marco in Florence and his panel paintings.
Filarete is first recorded in 1433 in Rome, where he attended the coronation of the Emperor Sigismund. Presumably the same year he was commissioned by Pope Eugenius IV to design and execute the bronze doors of St. Peter's Basilica.
