early life and background chen gongyin, a renowned chinese calligrapher, was born in 1631 in shunde, china. during the qing dynasty, he emerged as a prominent poet and scholar. following the collapse of the ming dynasty, chen's father, chen bangyuan, joined the resistance against the qing army but was defeated and killed in battle, resulting in the death of the entire family except for chen gongyin, who survived by hiding in a wall. artistic career and style chen gongyin later became a monk, adopting the name obaku dokutan. he gained fame for his mastery of 'seal script' and 'clerical script'…
