This artist is a painter from Kathmandu, Nepal. Born into a family of Nepalese Buddhist painters, he studied art at a modern art school in India. The artist is one of the first artists who introduced individualistic expression to the Nepalese art world where religious paintings were dominant at that time. In this work, the artist utilized the techniques of Western oil painting to depict Shiva Das, his father, working on a traditional Buddhist painting. The work shows the relationship between his father working with Buddhist painting tradition, and him as a son who learned modern painting, while reflecting the development of modern art in Nepal. The signature date of 2022 in Nepalese calendar is 1966 CE.
