Cottage on the Seashore
225.0 x 88.0 cm
Hamamatsu City Fuku Akino Art Museum
Cottage on the coast of Puri (state of Odisha) in eastern India. At dawn, a great many fishermen bravely put their boats out to sea as they ride their wooden canoes, splashing water in their battle with the surging waves. Once they have disappeared out to the open sea, one can hear only the sounds of the waves in the quiet peak of the day. There is a stray dog that always comes to sleep on the exceptionally elegantly built terrace. The composition of the beautiful horizon of whitecapped waves of the Bay of Bengal drawn in parallel with the cottage in the depths of the scene further adds to the stillness.
