Andrey Nikolov was among the first students, who graduated The State Drawing School in Sofia. In the sculptural class of Prof. Boris Chatz he acquired not only his first professional skills and knowledge, but defined the direction of his further searches connected with the academic artistic tradition. In 1903 he went to Paris to specialize sculpture in “Ecole des Beaux Arts”. There he accepted the aspiration for delivering the psychology of the models and for creation of refined subtle forms. Marble became his famous material. The peculiar sfumato of form became one of the most characteristic features of sculptor’s style.
