UCCA Center for Contemporary Art (Beijing, People's Republic of China)

Located in Beijing's 798 Art District, UCCA Center for Contemporary Art offers a rotating kaleidoscope of provocative exhibitions and immersive installations that invite you to explore the pulse of China's modern creativity.

The floral arts of Japan made a huge impact on the Western world during the Meiji Restoration. Azuma Makoto was chosen to re-present the complex and fascinating history of the transportation of plants that was facilitated by the creation of the Wardian case, a glass enclosure for plants. Paludarium Shigelu, a biosphere for a single plant, is the direct successor of this nineteenth century technology. This artwork was featured in the UCCA exhibition “Broached Retreat,” 2014
