cornelis bol iv, a prominent flemish painter and etcher, was born in antwerp on july 15, 1589. to distinguish him from other artists with the same name, he is sometimes referred to as cornelis bol iv. his early life and training are not well-documented, but it is known that he was active in antwerp until 1624.artistic career
bol's work periodically took him to england, where he left an indelible mark on the art world. a notable example of his work is the thames from somerset house, now part of the collection at the dulwich picture gallery. this piece showcases his mastery of capturing the play of light and shadow, a characteristic that would become a hallmark of his style.notable works and collaborations
