Artist Biography

Dianela Paloque: Transforming Everyday Objects into Contemplative Art

Argentine visual artist Dianela Paloque’s work stands apart for its meticulous exploration of material transformation—taking commonplace objects and elevating them to the realm of contemplation. Born in Freire, Córdoba, Argentina, in 1990, Paloque's artistic journey began with formal training at the Facultad de Artes, Universidad Nacional de Córdoba, where she earned a degree specializing in painting. This grounding in traditional techniques informs her distinctive approach, blending craftsmanship with conceptual considerations. Her artistic practice delves into themes of duality – contrasting rural and urban landscapes, juxtaposing leather and skin textures, and engaging with both established crafts and contemporary art movements. Paloque isn’t merely replicating surfaces; she interrogates their inherent symbolic potential. As she describes it herself, “My practice revolves around the body, understanding it as perpetually constructing-deconstructing.” This conceptual framework guides her experimentation with materials like metals, leather, clay, cement, and fabric—each chosen deliberately to provoke reflection on form and meaning. A pivotal moment in Paloque’s artistic development occurred during her residency at RARO (Rare Art Organization), where she undertook a project titled “Otras corporalidades: extensiones entre lo vivo y lo no-muerto” (“Other corporealities: extensions between the living and the dead”). Collaborating with Silvina Romero and María Heller, Paloque honed her skills in working with diverse mediums—specifically metals, leather, arcilla, cemento, tela—within a studio environment focused on exploring the relationship between body and matter. This experience solidified her commitment to investigating how materials can communicate ideas beyond their visual appearance. Her work gained recognition through exhibitions at Espacio Belgrado, curated by Mariana Rodríguez Iglesias, showcasing her exploration of materiality and its connection to philosophical concepts. The Vitrina de Espacio Belgrado provided a platform for Paloque’s artistic vision to reach a wider audience, cementing her position as a significant voice within the Argentine contemporary art scene.
